Afternoon Tea Week at the Corner Café

This week is Afternoon Tea Week so we are going to celebrate this old English tradition. Well, afternoon tea does sound very posh and snobby, I have to say, something the idle rich would do to relieve the boredom.
But I have to say some of the pictures would make me want to try it.

That does looks very appetising, I have to say!

It is an old tradition to have Afternoon Tea and it does bring a bit of fun and elegance to late in the afternoon.

The tradition of Afternoon Tea goes back to about the 1840's cos in those days dinner wasn't served till about 8 pm, so to get rid of the hunger feeling, a mini-meal was created and the rest as they say is history!

Traditionally, the meal consists of tea obviously, served in china cups, tiny finger sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream, and some sweet things such as cakes and pastries to boost your energy and make you feel better.

It may have started as a simple afternoon meal, but it became a social event for the idle rich, and even Queen Victoria went along with this tradition.

The tradition was started by Anna the 7th Duchess of Bedford, who got weary in the late afternoon so had a pot of tea and a snack, and then started inviting her friends around and so began the tradition of Afternoon Tea.

To celebrate Afternoon Tea Week is easy.
Take time off for Afternoon Tea. A fresh cuppa and a few sweets will give you a boost for the rest of the day.

Or for even more fun, have an Afternoon Tea Party. See how much fun was had at the Mad Hatters Tea Party and the PG Tips Tea Party! You don't have to spend a fortune to host one or do a lot of baking either.

Or if you want to splash out and feel very posh and affluent, go out for Afternoon Tea. I mean to a proper restaurant that serves it. It will cost a fair bit but just for once spoil yourself.

Let us have your thoughts on Afternoon Tea.
Do you go along with the tradition of having Afternoon Tea?
Do you go out for it or do you just think it's a meal we don't really need as most people eat a lot earlier these days?

All are welcome.
And please feel free to share all discussions you enjoy.
