All Things Red at The Corner Café

There are many meanings of the word Red. It’s the colour of love and seduction, and anger, and there are a lot of sayings attached to it, ie to see red, red-letter day, red sails in the sunset, red sky at night and a red rag to a bull.
It is a very vibrant colour and there are over 445 different shades of red.  It is my favourite colour. It’s bright and cheerful, which is one reason it was used for post boxes and telephone boxes., traffic lights and warning signs.  It is also the colour of blood. You can get a beautiful red sunset, the so-called shepherd’s delight that signals good weather. It is also the first colour in a rainbow. There is also red sexy underwear!!

Below are some pictures of things red that we are familiar with.

A very familiar sight even today, and have been in use since about 1852, just 12 years after the introduction of the first postage stamp.

Sadly now there are very few of these left on our streets. It was designed by Sir. Giles Gilbert Scott, whose design of the K2 cast iron box won a Post Office sponsored competition in 1924. These and the red post boxes once were all around our streets.

These signs mean different things depending on what’s put in them or not them, but red must be taken notice of!!

The red traffic light - always a pain when trying to get somewhere, especially in a town or city. I’m sure you all know the sequence of red, red amber, green, amber, red.

Other things we associate with red, are strawberries, tomatoes and radish. Red food always look so tempting.

Make mine a large one please!!

Red fox, a beautiful creature and so clever.

My favourite flower of all, and I just adore red roses, especially if they have a scent which sadly a lot don’t nowadays. I was given a bunch of 21 on my 21st birthday and they looked fantastic!!

And, of course, the lovely red hearts of love for Valentines Day.

Red Deer. The majestic monarchs of the Scottish glens!!

All are welcome. And please feel free to recommend and share all discussions you enjoy.
