Great Games Machines at The Corner Café
Welcome to the world of early games machines! We probably have all had one or more of the ones below. I know I have. They were the next best thing to sliced bread in their day, and even today they are still for sale with the original games, which tells you something. The graphics weren't good but the games were so so playable and addictive. Much better than the modern games, although obviously they have better graphics. But I personally would rather have a playable addictive game with poor graphics than a lot of the games nowadays.
The games for the Atari were carts. and included great games like Breakout, Packman, Space Invaders, Centipede and Phoenix. Both the Commodore and Spectrum had cassettes and could be slow and a pain to load but you could get a disc drive for the C64 which was slightly better !! The games for those included Bubble Bobble, Outrun, California Games, and two of the most playable games I think - Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy.
Now, probably the biggest debate ever, Sonic or Mario, and depending on what your answer was, which machine you bought.
And this was the Game Boy, their hand held machine launched in 1989 and best known for Tetris.
Since those days, machines have progressed to Playstation, Wii, Xbox, and now tablets. I personally don’t think they are as good. Yes, the graphics are better and they are faster but I am still nostalgic about the old machines. They were fun.
Ok, let us have your thoughts on games machines, what you had and what games you liked.
