There is no place like home, as the saying goes, and a man’s home is his castle.

A home is not just bricks and mortar, that is just the shell, although there are some fantastic looking shells around. A home is what you make it, and is personal to you. It doesn't matter what others think of it. It needs to be a happy home though, full of fun and laughter.

Man has progressed over the years from cave-dwelling to other types of primitive shelters like treehouses, homemade tents, to what we have today.

Today’s basic type of house. A far cry from living in a cave

A home can be anything from a one-bedroom flat, to a large mansion, or some house carved into the rocks or sides of mountains, but whatever it is, it is yours, and you put your mark on it, whether it is with pictures, ornaments, or other personal things.
It is home, and you never feel as comfortable in anybody else's home as in your own.
Some people like town/city life, not for me, or some like living remotely on an island or in the countryside.

Your first home is always the one you remember best of all. You took ages to get it as you wanted it, spent hours looking at home mags to decide what sort of curtains, blinds etc. you were going to have, and what colour your walls were going to be. But the thrill and excitement when it was all done, it is never repeated however nice a place you end up buying.

You buy your home, decorate it, furnish it and it is probably the biggest investment you will ever make, and nowadays will put you into debt for the rest of your life.

A home needs to be practical and comfortable, a place where friends can come and kick their shoes off, not a showpiece.
You see these pictures of fantastic white kitchens. How long would they stay like that for? Totally impractical for cooking etc.

Animals have different ideas of what constitutes a home. To them, it is somewhere to have young and rear them, then most are off to pastures new, although some do stay put for a while. Unless of course, they are pets, and that is a completely different story.

So what would be your ideal home?
To me, it has to have dogs and cats in it, or it is not a home at all. It is an empty shell.
