The postal service has changed how we communicated before the days of the internet.

Word Post Day is to remind us of how postal services for everybody became easier when the world finally agreed how post was processed. I do find it difficult to believe that everybody actually managed to come to an agreement !!

The Universal Postal Union started in 1874 and came about by the Treaty of Bern to establish postal policies.  The Treaty was the result of an international conference to unify disparate regulations regarding post so that mail could be sent freely. Obviously, the Treaty has been altered many times to update things. The UPU helped establish a universal rate at which mail could be sent anywhere in the world.

World Post Day celebrates this Treaty , and to help celebrate this day, people take the time to actually post a letter to a friend or family member. And don’t forget to thank your Postman/Woman for delivering your mail come hell or high water.

Just give a thought to how long ago you actually wrote a letter. I used to have a pen friend in Zambia when I was in my early teens and I used to wait expectantly for his letters and look forward to them.  All that fun is now gone thanks to the internet.  There was nothing like expecting a letter and rushing down each morning to see if it had arrived. And if you were expecting one from a boyfriend you took it to your room and just sat and looked at it.
Same with cards, I do actually send cards. Yes, I use ecards but only where I have to, and although the postage on some cards is far more than the cost of the card it is still worth sending a proper card I think. I love to see cards up in the lounge.

There were also some beautiful postage stamps around and how do people fair with collecting them nowadays?

Ok, let’s have your thoughts on the Postal system.
Do you use it much or do you send parcels, etc. etc. by courier?
When did you actually sit down and write a letter.
I do put a short message on Christmas cards, but not actual letters.

I'm not sure we could actually be without the postal system though. It is needed as much as emails.
