Let's Play A Game Of Cards
I would imagine everybody has at least one pack of playing cards sitting in a drawer somewhere in their home. I know I have at least a couple of packs.
Why not dig them out and sit and enjoy a game of cards by yourself or with a friend or family.
Card games go back a very long time in history, and some believe that the playing cards were invented in China around the 9th century AD and may have been used as "play money" for stakes used for other gambling games. Then they became part of the games themselves.
The first reference to a card game is in 868 when Princess Tonghang (daughter of the Emperor Yizong of Tang) played the "leaf game" with members of the family.
They were also very popular in the olden day Courts of the King, and often women would be seen sitting playing cards and gossiping about the latest scandal at Court.
There are between 1,000 and 10,000 card games around it is estimated. Some serious and some fun. Some you can lose a lot of money at as well if you are that way inclined.
When I was a child, my parents went to visit my Aunt every Saturday and used to play Crib. I learnt this game at a very early age and still play it the odd time with Taff today.
There are some great children's games, Beat your Neighbour, Snap and Happy Families, and Pears all of which are great fun as a child.
Then you advance to things like Gin rummy, bridge, Pontoon and even poker but for an adult fun game you can't beat Cheat (as long as you don't do what Taff does, and ends up giving you the whole pack!!)
If you are on your own there are also a lot of different games of Patience you can play, and no point in cheating cos you are only cheating yourself, but a great way to waste an afternoon lol.
There are, as I said earlier, something like between 1,000 and 10,000 different card games so I'm sure you have played some.
Tell us what games you like.
Do you still play with real cards or prefer to play online?
All are welcome.
And please feel free to share all discussions you enjoy.
