Letters of the Alphabet
Letters, 26 of them, all different and every one having an upper and lower case form. The English alphabet is a Latin one and originates from the 7th century from Latin script. Obviously, since then letters have been added or removed to give us what we have today.
You can do so much with these 26 letters, and spell thousands upon thousands of words, some meaning the same but spelt differently .
You get letters in all different shapes, forms and sizes depending on the type of font and typeface you use.
We all use these 26 letters everyday, and we don't give it a thought. When I first learnt to type, we had to take “the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog”. That uses all 26 letters, and takes some typing correctly at speed. Some of you probably still actually write down letters, but how good is your handwriting nowadays? Mine has never been good. I tend to scribble things down, which comes from doing shorthand, I suppose.
We get letters in our names and initials, house names, crossword clues, criss cross puzzles and of course, books and scrabble tiles!
OK, let us know what else you use letters of the alphabet for and let’s have your best word using them.. Mine is Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch and let’s see how many of you can spell that !!
All are welcome. And please feel free to recommend and share all discussions you enjoy.
There is no obligation to follow any of our informal themes. They are simply for fun. This is an open topic chat thread, so please just post or talk about anything you like!
