Our African Safari

Welcome to our Africa theme thread.

Africa is the world's second largest and second most-populous continent, being behind Asia in both categories. At about 30.3 million km² including adjacent islands, it covers 6% of Earth's total surface area and 20% of its land area.

Population: 1.216 billion (2016)

Languages: 1250–3000 native languages.

There are some fabulous animals native to this region of the world, and some wonderful scenery. So, please come and join us on the safari of a lifetime!

Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano in Tanzania. It is the highest mountain in Africa, at about 4,900 metres or 16,100ft from its base.

African elephants are the world's largest land animals. The biggest can be up to 7.5m long, 3.3m high at the shoulder, and 6 tonnes in weight.

Giraffes are the world’s tallest living land animal and the largest ruminant.

Rhinoceros comes from the Greek for “nose horn”.

Zebras eat mostly grass and will travel up to 1,800 miles in search of food. Some zebras also eat leaves and twigs.

The wildebeest, also known as the gnu, is a large antelope.
