St. Patrick's Day at The Corner Café

St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and is believed to have brought Christianity to Ireland. Born in Wales about AD385, the story has it he was carted off by pirates and spent 6 years as a slave before getting away and training as a missionary.

The most famous tale of him is driving the snakes from Ireland.  He died on 17th March AD461 and thus this day has become known as St. Patrick's Day.

The flag of St. Patrick.

The national emblem of Ireland is the Shamrock and St. Patrick used the 3 leaved shamrock to explain the Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  They could exist as separate entities but were still one being.

St. Patrick’s Day is marked by people wearing shamrocks which is the national emblem of both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

There are parades in the large cities, and the wearing of green is traditional as is the drinking of Guinness which is the traditional drink of Ireland.

Not sure I fancy green guinness!

Now that is more like it, not that I actually like the stuff apart from cooking beef in it!!

Whether you are Irish and celebrate their special day, I don’t know, but if you do, watch out for the Leprechauns!!
