Star Trek to many has become a way of life from when it was first seen on TV way back in the the sixties. People take being a Trekkie very seriously indeed and spend time and money going to all sort of conventions all over the place.

The first series was broadcast in 1966 and lasted for 3 years. Ok, it's very dated now, but I loved it, and think personally it was the best of them. It was followed by The Next Generation from 1987 to 1994, and then Deep Space Nine from 1993 to 1999. I have seen some of all of these. I have not seen any of the last two, which are Voyager 1995 to 2001 and lastly Enterprise 2001-2005.

Of course, the first series introduced probably the most loved character in the whole thing.

There were so many famous quotes from that that people still use today

As done by the Master himself !

There have also been a lot of Star Trek films

  • Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) ...

  • Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) ...

  • Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) ...

  • Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) ...

  • Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) ...

  • Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) ...

  • Star Trek: Generations (1994)

There were a lot of well-known characters from the series and films, some you love and others were the bad guys you hated.

Star Trek's aim was to show a hope-filled future where there was no racism and nationality didn't matter. At the end of the day, we are all living in the same universe and should get on.

To celebrate this day, you could go to a Trekkie convention, or simply dress up as one of your favourite characters.

The other way is to do a Trekkie marathon and watch all the series, in order, of course, followed by the films, again in order.

Whatever you do, as a well-known person would say, "live long and prosper"!
Please give us your thoughts on Star Trek.
Are you a Trekkie through and through, or do you just watch the odd film as and when?
