Trains - Little and Large
We have all been on a train at one stage or another in our lives, but generally, it's the larger sort. We tend to forget the Miniature Railways all over the Country that you can actually ride on. In fact, years ago, our local Boot Sale had a track and a train going round the field that you could ride on, not for free!
When I used to go to Brighton yonks ago, there was a Miniature Railway along the seafront. Not sure why because the beach is awful but it was always very popular. I don’t know if it’s still there now.
There is also a Miniature Railway going up Mount Snowdon for people that can’t make it to the top!
Then there are the Model Railways
Now, I can appreciate the fun of actually making a model train or a model set up, but when it comes to people running them by a timetable day after day, I do think they have a serious problem.
As a kid we all had train sets of some description and spent hours playing with them, then I suppose some of you progressed to a model train set, but not on the scale that some people have.
I think from the first train set I had I loved trains. Not the modern ones. They are characterless and ok they can go fast, but I used to love sitting looking out of the window, and nowadays, blink and you miss it. I think the best trains were the steam trains of the 1960s. They had such character. There are still a few running in various parts of the country to this day but not on a commercial basis.
What's your favourite trains, do you have or have had a model railway set up and did you run it to a schedule? If you have any photos of any train sets etc. you have had please feel free to post them. We would love to see them.
If you want to see the World’s biggest model railway, and I dread to imagine what it costs, just watch the vid. They have created a magnificent tiny world!
All are welcome.
And please feel free to share all discussions you enjoy.
