Today is Work Like A Dog Day.
There are roughly 350 different breeds of dogs worldwide and on top of that you have the crossbreeds as well, and what I call the Heinz 57's. A lot of these breeds are called working dogs, cos that is what they do, the best known of which is obviously the Border Collie whose speed, intelligence, and energy is second to none.

We have a lot to thank these working dogs for: the Guide Dogs, the Hearing Dogs, the Assistance Dogs, that make a difference to disabled people’s every day life by doing tasks their owner can’t do, the Mountain Rescue Dogs, and the Dogs that search the airport and containers that come into the Country for drugs.

While a lot of dogs do work like a dog, there are a lot of pampered pooches around that don't know the meaning of it, and won't move a paw unless they have to.

Then there are the ones we see on the Internet, the fun ones, who think they are working by answering the phones and sitting at a desk, etc.

Today, we could spoil our dogs, even those that don't actually work, and just make an extra fuss of them cos we can, or we could donate some money to one of the worthwhile charities for working dogs, or if there is a training place near you go and help out, exercise the dogs and of course, take plenty of treats.
However you celebrate it, believe me they make so much difference to your life as a pet owner, but even more so if you have an Assistance Dog for any reason. Those people couldn't survive without their dogs. So let's give a round of applause to those fantastic four-legged creatures.
