Global Beatles Day
Well, today is Global Beatles Day. In 1960, the history of music changed forever, and love them or hate them, they probably had more influence than any band. It is, of course, John, Paul, George, and Ringo.
Global Beatles Day is a yearly holiday to celebrate the music of the Beatles. It is celebrated all over the world with different events going on.
The day was started by a fan of them in 2009. The date was chosen cos it was the date the group took part in Our World in 1987 which was broadcast by the BBC to a global audience. They sang what is one of their iconic songs: "All you need is Love".
They started off playing small places that were cheap in their hometown of Liverpool, Their Manager, Brian Epstein, guided them to gain their popularity and this came with the first hit song "Love Me Do" and then the rest is history. The world was caught up in Beatlemania.
They influenced people not only with their music but with the values they believed in. All through their career they promoted that we should all live in peace built on love and truth. A lovely dream. Their music made people express themselves differently to what had been, in fashion, sex, art and embracing their imagination.
Some facts about the Fab Four.
They have sold more than 600 million albums around the world, and in the US they have sold over 1.6 billion singles.
They have knocked themselves off the number 1 position on the UK charts twice and have won several Grammy Awards.
“Hey Jude” was in the charts for 19 weeks, and they had had more number-one hit singles on the Billboard Hot 10 chart than any other Band, with 20 number ones.
In the UK their albums spent 174 weeks at the top of the charts in total and Yesterday is the most covered song in history, having been covered over 3,000 times
The Beatles definitely deserve this day and you could celebrate it by dressing as your favourite Beatle. With a lot of thought, you could probably give a quote from their songs throughout the day to suit any situation. See what is going on in your area as a lot of music festivals etc. take place during this time.
If you like to go clubbing, ha ha ha, there are a lot of Beatle themed nights around. Or if your a night-in person, watch a DVD of one of their concerts or films.
The Beatles are still one of the most influential bands of all times, famous everywhere. Today is a great day to honour these four lads from Liverpool who made so much change to the music industry and to how we all saw things.
