Ice Cream Day at The Corner Café
Come on, don't any of you dare tell me that you don't like ice cream, especially on a hot summer's day, and especially as there are so many different flavours and types of ice cream to choose from.
Ice cream has become one of the most popular dishes all over the world and that's why we have a day to celebrate it, or should I say indulge in it !!
Oddly enough, it appears we have more to thank Ronald Reagan for than his acting, (or lack of it, lol) and his gift to comedy. It was he that invented National Ice Cream Day to be on the 3rd Sunday in July. He did this as he wanted to commemorate a treat enjoyed by over 90% of Americans, but I would think over 90% of most people in every country as well.
We think that ice cream started in Iran's Achaemenid Empire in roughly 500BC. Different flavours were put into ice for treats for people in the summer. In 400BC, the Persians created a special chilled food which was a mix of vermicelli and rose water.
Ok, now how are we going to celebrate this wonderful day? Go and enjoy a scoop of this delicious treat, then an ice cream sandwich, and a milkshake. Wolf down a banana split and share an ice cream cake with somebody.
Whatever you fancy, it’s a special day so let’s all indulge in something very naughty but nice.
