๐It's Burger time at The Corner Cafe๐
Yummy we all will say, but there are burgers and burgers.
There is the sort you get from a wagon, which all I can say is they are disgusting and cheap and nasty burgers, or there are burgers that are really lovely, a source of happiness and enjoyment.
Burgers are readily available nowadays, and there are some very good Burger restaurants around as well, or you can make them at home, which is by far the best.
Some people think the burger was invented in Hamburg, and the ground beef that was used was a waste product, the leftovers of the prime cuts.
Some think it was made by Louis Lassen, a Danish immigrant, who cooked the first patty in 1900 using ideas he had seen in Europe. It first appeared in 1904 at the St. Louis food festival but didn't really take off for a while and that was due to a bit of commercialization.
Hamburgers were originally an economy food and a way of using leftovers by the food industry
In the Great Depression of the 1930s, cheap food was a necessity and machines were developed to churn these burgers out en masse.
The problem was as they were classed as a cheap food people didn't like to go anywhere and eat them but the development coincided with the start of the "greasy spoon" and people were drawn to them , and the rest as they say is history.
Hamburgers are one of the most popular foods around, anywhere in the world, and the biggest burger ever made weighed 777lbs.
A good quality burger is a great meal, but cheap ones are just awful, so go treat yourself next time you go shopping to some really good burgers, again the choice is unlimited: lamb, lamb and apricot, Aberdeen Angus, and duck, to name a few and of course, veggie burgers, some of which are very nice.
What to add to a burger is just left to your imagination, and if you are desperate you can add a Kraft cheese slice to it. Yuck. Blue cheese is lovely as are gherkins, pickles, egg, caramalised onions, and bacon, to name a few. Don't forget underneath as well, salad leaves, mayo or any spicy dressing and toms or even some coleslaw. The mixture is endless. Not to mention the type of bun to have it in, there is the boring burger bap, or you can do brown crusty rolls, seedy rolls, as I do, or any other sort of roll.
What to have with a burger? Well, the obvious is a few chips. You don't need much of anything really as a burger is filling on its own, or as I do, in the summer have it with salad, it makes a very nice meal.
Ok let us know your favourite burger topping and your favourite burger meat and let's enjoy some burgers on Kieran today !!
