Let's Dance at The Corner Café

Let's Dance at The Corner Café

Ok, as the song goes "Let’s Dance"

Dance goes back a long way, right from the depths of time. From tribal dances, war dances, and folk dances to graceful ballet, the jolly Samba, the elegant waltz, the raunchy rumba and the tantalising tango.

There have been some brilliant dancers over the years, from many different styles, like Fred Astaire and Gingers Rogers, Gregory Hines, Sammy Davis Junior, and Michael Jackson.

Each period in history has its own style of popular dance as well: the jazz and swing from the ’20s through to the ’40s, the rock and roll of the ’50s and ’60s, disco in the ’70s, the electro-style moves of the ’80s, and the club-style dancing of the ’90s to the present day.

Now, this is my era. The jive was my favourite and in my day I wasn’t bad at the twist either. Not sure I would attempt either now though.

The conga line is a novelty line dance that was derived from the Cuban carnival dance of the same name and became popular in the US in the 1930s and 1950s. The dancers form a long, processing line, which would usually turn into a circle.

So, let’s have your thoughts and memories of your own dancing times and share some music to make us all want to get up and DANCE!!
