Let's Eat Some Toast
Well, toast is something we all eat. I have 2 slices most days, which I share with the dogs. Did you know there was a Toast Day, dedicated to how we cook toast and what we put on it? It was established in 2014 by Tiptree World Bread Awards along with Brook Food, to celebrate people's love of toast.
There is no right or wrong way to enjoy toast, we all have different ideas. Some prefer light coloured toast, others darker, and some even burnt. I hate light coloured toast, which is what you tend to get in cafes as I do like toast to look like toast.
The one argument about eating toast is whether you should use butter if you are topping it, but this is down again to personal taste.
There are various toppings for toast. In fact, the list is endless really. A few are marmalade, jam, marmite, chocolate spread, peanut butter, and of course, things like sardines, which all make a good breakfast toast. Beans on toast, eggs of any description on toast, the same rules apply.
There is a choice of bread today for toast as well, and you have to choose carefully or your toast will be like crispbread. Do not even try toasting thin or even some medium sliced bread. It just doesn't work. You can get white, brown, 50/50, granary, wholemeal and many more, There is one that is called a toaster but that tends to be bland and white and tasteless. Whichever bread you choose, butter is the only thing to use. Marg and all the other rubbish stuff just ruins a good piece of toast.
How to celebrate Toast Day is up to you. You can either have some extra toast or have something different on it, or just plain well-toasted bread with some decent butter - you can't beat it. Even, when in better times, have some friends around and have a toast party!
Ok, let's hear about your favourite toppings and what sort of bread you toast and how well it works.
All are welcome.
And please feel free to share all discussions you enjoy.
