National Landline Telephone Day

Yes, National Landline Day!! How many of you remember the phone in the main pic. That's the first one my parents had when I was about 14, but it was black.
We have gone through a lot of different styles of phone since then and now it all seems to be cordless.

They certainly weren't as invasive on your life as phones are today. You couldn't take it with you. It didn't tell you who was calling, so you had to answer it, and you couldn't leave a message. How on earth did we manage? Very well actually if the truth is known.

National Landline Day is celebrated on the anniversary of Alexander Graham Bell's invention, and the rest they say is history.

There was another inventor, Elisha Gery, who filed a patent for the telephone within hours of Bell's patent, but Bell’s was approved first.

The first call was made on 10th March 1876 by Bell who showed his ability "to talk with electricity" by transmitting a call to his assistant, Thomas Watson. The first words ever were "Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you"

Such satisfaction in doing that!

How embarrassing was that !!

To celebrate this day, let's see how many phone numbers you can remember. The original phones didn't store them.
I used to know people's numbers in those days. Nowadays, I don't even know my mobile number.

Make a call from your landline to somebody elses, and shock the younger generation who seemed to be attached to their mobile phones 24/7.

Ditch your mobile for a day, don’t even turn it on, and see how you get on. You may well be surprised. How much better it was in those days!!

I would imagine most of you have landlines, so, how often do you use it? Do you prefer it to mobiles and what sort of landline do you have? Please do not come out with this reason for having one, lol!
