National Walk in the Park Day

National Walk in the Park Day

What could be nicer than walking round here at any time of the year?

There is nothing like a walk in the park to brighten your day up, whatever time of year it is. With the changing seasons the park itself will change, and get busier.

Nowadays, when designing cities, space is ensured for parks, be they small or large.

This day was founded to encourage people to go for a walk in their local parks and explore the wildlife and appreciate the plants and flowers there.

It is a good idea to take a camera with you cos you never know what you will see, although most of us nowadays always carry a camera

You can jog in the park, much better than jogging along a pavement breathing in car fumes, or sit and draw something that catches your eye, or if you have kids take a picnic in the summer. Some parks have a picnic table. Some even have a small café where you can grab a cuppa and a kid’s playground as well. As a kid, our local park had a paddling pool as well.

Getting out and enjoying nature has a lot of therapeutic effects on us. Stress levels plummet, heart and mind are refreshed and daily walks help with joints and muscles and our hearts beating steadily as well. Although walking at first will tire you, every day you will feel better and it is good for weight loss as well.

Sitting here will definitely ease your stress levels. There is a place like that in the park in Lincoln and ducks etc. come up to be fed, but sadly, not allowed to feed them now!

Unfortunately, parks are limited to cities and towns. We do have a nice one in Lincoln itself, but out in the country, it's walking along bridle tracks or old railway lines, but that actually is great and it is surprising what you see and is quieter than the parks, but take your own drink cos you are unlikely to see any cafés!

Whatever you do today, even if it's not the norm, go for a walk in your local park and enjoy the scenery and the wildlife, and you will feel a lot better for it when you get home!

All are welcome.
