Spring Forward

Spring Forward

Well, it's that time of the year. The last Sunday in March when traditionally the clocks spring forward.
We get lighter evenings and darker mornings. And we revert to British Summer Time - sounds much nicer, I think.

The clocks go forward one hour at 1 am on 27th March and back at 2 am on the last Sunday in October, thus giving dark nights and lighter mornings, they say!

It is thought that daylight saving time was suggested by Benjamin Franklin in 1784 when he proposed the Parisians changed their bedtime habits to save on artificial lights, and thus save them money.
In 1895 George Hudson suggested a two-hour change so more time to go bug hunting after work.
Twelve years later, William Willet made a proposal to Parliament in a leaflet called "The Waste of Daylight. He wanted the clocks put forward by 80 minutes, to save the country money and to improve health and have time for recreation. The Government rejected this but Churchill and Arthur Conon Doyle backed it. Willet kept campaigning for this till he died in 1915.
In WW2, Germany was looking for ideas to save energy and remembered Willett's pamphlet and gave it a try, and England followed a few weeks later.
In 2002, the EU decided that all members should change their clocks on the last Sunday in March and October.

I believe there have been discussions as to whether we should keep changing the clocks, but as yet, unfortunately, nothing has come of it.

Spring forward clock shifts sometimes mess up things. Travel can be disrupted, billing, record keeping, medical devices can be affected in hospitals and need a close eye kept on them. And of course, our sleep patterns. Computer software generally adjusts clocks automatically.

Oh yes, feeding time doesn’t change

Ok, so what's your view on this?
I personally wish they would leave it at BST as I hate the dark evenings, so depressing. I also find it mucks your body clock up for a while and confuses some animals as well.
Tell us your thoughts and all I can say is …

When it gets here!

All are welcome.
And please feel free to share all discussions you enjoy.
