Tell The Truth Day
A study by Cambridge University found that on average, people tell two lies a day.
Sometimes these are lies we tell ourselves when we just don’t want to face facts, or little white lies to protect another's feelings, or occasionally huge great whoppers, sometimes just for the sake of it, it seems!!
Today is Tell The Truth Day, a day when we should try to be more honest with ourselves and with others.
Because we all know what happens if we tell too many lies!!
So how do we celebrate this day?
Well, the first thing is not to tell lies to anyone else today.
But that doesn’t mean we have to be brutally honest with people. You should still try to temper the truth with tact and diplomacy. Even if the heart is in the right place, truth can hurt.
So if someone asks your opinion or you offer it unasked, don’t say it in a way that you yourself wouldn’t like to be told something, especially on a personal issue. Break it to me gently, as they say!!
Secondly, we should be honest with ourselves.
If our lifestyle isn’t great, or some of our personal habits, or the way we treat others, we should admit those faults and try to find a way to improve things. Facing facts can be hard, but once that first step is made, the rest follows much more easily!!
The Internet has more than its fair share of right little Pinocchios that have been able to carry things out for a long time before tripping themselves up, as well as others who can’t keep a story straight to save their lives!! You can see it all over, on all platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Disqus, etc.
Some people opt for endless drama while others like pretending everything is perfect. Lies take many forms. The stories of their lives and times become more and more outlandish until even the most trusting soul in the community eventually wakes up. And any truth that is in there starts getting doubted as well. It’s a slippery slope.
”Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practise to deceive.”
And the saddest thing is if these people would only be themselves, they would probably be liked and valued much more just for being themselves.
So, the moral of the story is, be honest with yourself and with others - with kindness, of course - and you will be respected for that and be happier within yourself.
But truthfulness and lying do also have a funny side, so, let’s have some fun with all manner of truth and lies: music, pictures, cartoons, memes or gifs.
And you all better tell me the truth today, or else - and no fingers crossed behind your back either!! 😁
All are welcome.
And please feel free to share all discussions you enjoy.
